Following the sudden loss of my brother, I experienced what many would describe as a spiritual awakening.
It was a time of immense grief, shock and transformation. It challenged everything I thought I knew about life, death, healing and connection.

When I was in my late 20s (40+ years ago) I used to laugh when people told me I was too young to be a manager, to be a counsellor or their teacher because I had no life experience. Who was I to tell them what to do?
What followed were decades of 'life experience' through education, training, personal development, marriage, divorce, parenthood, loss, abuse…
I sometimes wonder if my unconscious mind created these ‘experiences’ because I had felt unworthy and thus needed to experience a rapid, painful spiritual awakening.
Some people refer to this as imposter syndrome.
I now recognise that these experiences were not essential aspects of my training but they definitely enhance my ability to feel compassion and to hold a safe space for clients while they do the work.
